about this site
After being an admirer of the art of photography for some time I decided I’d put in the work and try to develop my skills as a novice photographer. I’ve always loved looking at pictures. I knew some were good, and some were not so good, but couldn’t understand what made the difference. After years of point, shoot, and hope that the picture I took would come out amazing, I decided if I wanted to create something great I’d need the tools to do it. I knew if I wanted the proper tools I’d need to scrape, save, beg, borrow, steal and sacrifice so I can actually afford to take part in this hobby. I then began to mentally prepared myself to live in poverty just to fulfill my goal of buying a Digital SLR camera, but just then the greatest thing happened… I didn’t have to. My wonderful, beautiful, amazing girlfriend went out and got me my Cannon Rebel Xsi for our 2-year anniversary. Shortly following, she surprised me with a Cannon EF Zoom 75-300mm lens and my tool arsenal was complete (at least for now). So with over $1500 in “tools” I was released into the world to capture the perfect photos.
It didn’t take long to realize that, though the camera I had was awesome, it didn’t take quality pictures on it’s own. So began my journey to acquire the knowledge needed to bring to life the skills I knew I had dormant somewhere inside of me. So I started where everyone should start when they want to learn something new, the children’s section of my local public library. Yes I checked out a kid’s book. National Geographic Photography Guide for Kids to be exact. Contained in this book was a wealth of information that, written for any other audience, would have cycled through my head like wind through a tunnel leaving nothing behind. I had attempted to read several photography books targeted for adults but nothing would stick. Finally after reading this children’s book everything just stuck. Aperture, shutter speed, ISO settings, depth of field, and everything else this book made so easy to understand, actually remained in my memory and was ready to be put to use. I didn’t stop there, I picked up a copy of Digital SLR Cameras & Photography for Dummies as well as Cannon EOS Digital Rebel Xsi/450D for Dummies. Armed the combination knowledge and equipment I set out to capture the world around me onto my handy dandy SD card. This site contains fruits of that journey. I hope you enjoy looking at my photos and enjoy my photo journey from “picture taker” to “Photographer”.....
